How an Adaptive Resident Wellness Program Increased Participation by More Than 300%

Since 2018, ThriveHub has managed weekly wellness programming for a large residential community referred to here as Maple Grove Apartments.

The long-term partnership has evolved alongside the community. By listening to residents, adjusting the class format, and selecting instructors who understand the group, ThriveHub helped increase participation by more than 300% while making the program easy for the property team to maintain.

The Community

Maple Grove Apartments serves residents across a range of ages, mobility levels, and wellness experience. Many participants are older adults, but the property is not a senior living community.

The program therefore needed to be accessible without feeling clinical, overly basic, or designed exclusively for seniors.

The Goal

The property wanted a dependable wellness amenity that could:

  • Keep residents engaged over the long term

  • Accommodate different abilities and mobility levels

  • Create opportunities for connection

  • Adapt to seasonal attendance patterns

  • Operate with minimal work for the onsite team

Success required more than scheduling the same class indefinitely. The program needed to evolve based on who was actually participating.

Building the Right Program

ThriveHub initially offered both mat yoga and chair yoga, giving residents different ways to participate.

Over time, attendance patterns and resident feedback showed that chair yoga was the better fit for the community. ThriveHub responded by developing a dedicated chair-yoga program centered on accessible movement, breathing, balance, flexibility, and relaxation.

Classes can be completed seated or with a chair for support. Instructors also offer variations based on the abilities of the residents in the room, allowing participants to remain challenged without feeling left behind.

Adapting Over Time

Since the program began, ThriveHub has continued refining it through:

  • Schedule adjustments based on seasonal participation

  • Direct communication with registered residents

  • Class reminders and program updates

  • Ongoing participant and instructor feedback

  • Instructor changes when a different teaching style better served the group

  • A roster of trusted substitutes to maintain continuity

  • Seasonal and outdoor programming when appropriate

  • Educational wellness workshops

This feedback-driven approach has helped the program remain relevant instead of becoming a static calendar offering.

Finding the Right Instructors

Technical qualifications matter, but long-term residential wellness also requires patience, warmth, and the ability to read a room.

ThriveHub used resident feedback to identify instructors who could tailor each class to the group while maintaining a welcoming, professional experience.

Residents noticed the difference:

“Both instructors are excellent. Both tweak the class according to needs and are professional and very nice.”

Another participant shared:

“Great instructor. Varies it each time. Explains what the pose is good for. Gives us alternatives.”

A third resident described the instructor as:

“Very attentive to everyone’s abilities.”

Making the Program Easy for Property Management

ThriveHub manages the operational details behind the classes, including instructor coordination, schedule communication, participant updates, and substitute coverage.

Residents receive the information they need directly, while the property team remains informed without having to manage each interaction.

This balance has allowed the program to continue reliably while remaining relatively hands-off for onsite staff.

The Results

Over the course of the partnership, ThriveHub has helped Maple Grove Apartments:

  • Sustain weekly wellness programming since 2018

  • Deliver hundreds of resident classes

  • Increase attendance by more than 300%

  • Build a loyal group of recurring participants

  • Welcome new residents into an established program

  • Transition successfully from mixed formats to dedicated chair yoga

  • Maintain continuity through instructor and schedule changes

  • Create a wellness amenity residents continue to value

The program’s longevity is not the result of leaving it unchanged. Its success comes from continually listening, learning, and adapting.

The Takeaway

Long-term resident engagement does not happen by accident.

It requires consistent delivery, responsive program management, and instructors who adapt to the people in front of them. By treating resident feedback as an ongoing part of the program, residential communities can create wellness amenities that continue serving residents year after year.
