How a Boston Engineering Firm Built a Consistent Workplace Yoga Program
Weekly onsite yoga, adaptable instruction, and a wellness program employees kept coming back to
A Boston-based structural engineering firm wanted to give employees an opportunity to move, recharge, and connect after the workday.
With approximately 300 employees in its Boston office and 500 nationwide, the company partnered with ThriveHub to offer weekly onsite yoga. What followed was a program that ran for more than a year, developed a loyal group of regular participants, and expanded to include virtual meditation.
The Goal: Create a Wellness Program Employees Would Actually Attend
The Boston team was active—and many employees wanted a real workout from their workplace yoga class.
ThriveHub scheduled weekly power yoga on Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m., giving employees an opportunity to transition out of the workday with movement.
But creating the right class meant balancing different preferences.
Some employees loved power yoga and wanted to be challenged. Others wanted a more approachable practice. Instead of choosing one group over the other, the instructor adapted.
A Dedicated Instructor Who Got to Know the Team
ThriveHub provided a dedicated yoga instructor who returned week after week.
Over time, she got to know the employees, their preferences, and what they wanted from class. She introduced new poses to keep experienced participants challenged while offering modifications and lower-intensity options for employees who didn't want a traditional power yoga experience.
That consistency helped create a class that could evolve with the people attending it.
The program developed a core group of approximately six employees who attended consistently, with another three to five employees participating more casually.
Leadership Participation Helped Set the Tone
One of the firm's principals was also an enthusiastic yoga practitioner—and became one of the program's most consistent participants.
Having a senior leader regularly show up gave employees visible leadership buy-in rather than wellness simply being something the company promoted.
It helped make taking time for yoga feel like a normal, supported part of the workplace culture.
Expanding Beyond Physical Wellness
ThriveHub also introduced virtual meditation sessions to complement the onsite yoga program.
While the weekly yoga classes were primarily instructional, the meditation sessions incorporated more education around the practice.
That distinction mattered.
One employee admitted that they initially struggled with the idea of stepping away from engineering work for meditation when there was still so much to accomplish. But after dedicating 15–20 minutes to the session, they reported returning to their work feeling calmer, more focused, and more productive—with new ideas for solving the engineering problem they had been working through.
As the employee put it, resting the mind helped them do more.
The Results
The weekly onsite program continued for more than a year and built a dependable base of returning participants.
Over the course of the partnership:
Weekly power yoga gave employees a consistent after-work wellness option.
A dedicated instructor adapted classes to different experience and intensity levels.
Approximately six employees became highly consistent regulars, with another three to five joining more casually.
Participation from a company principal demonstrated visible leadership support.
Virtual meditation expanded the program beyond physical movement and gave employees another way to step away from their work.
Most importantly, the program wasn't static. The instructor learned what employees wanted and continued adjusting the experience around the people actually attending.
